Mission Statement

Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House is an independent, non-profit organization which eases the burden of veterans and their families during their stay at the Pittsburgh Fisher House.

About Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House

The Pittsburgh Fisher House is a "home away from home" offering free lodging, meals, and camaraderie for families of veterans with a loved one receiving care at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System. The Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House supplements and furnishes the Fisher House with day-to-day items like groceries, meals, gift cards, special holiday gatherings, transportation vouchers, and other comforts that make life a little easier for guests at Pittsburgh Fisher House.

A single night at the Pittsburgh Fisher House saves a family approximately $320 in out-of-pocket expenses (when compared to a hotel). With the average stay for a Fisher House guest being 6 days, that's an average savings of $1,900 per family. That's a significant amount. But more important, and what you cannot put a price on, is the heartwarming care and support families receive when they step foot inside the Pittsburgh Fisher House, their temporary "home away from home", so they can be by the side of their veteran at the VA hospital.
