Mission Statement

Stop the Judgment Project is committed to ending the stigma of judgment associated with mental health disorders and substance use disorders -- particularly among young people.

About Stop the Judgment Project

Mental health disorders and substance use disorders often go hand in hand. Unfortunately, the stigma of being judged makes many young adults afraid to talk about their mental health and substance use disorders, so they don’t get the help they need. It also makes parents reluctant to share details of their child’s disorder with family and friends, so they suffer in silence. And it makes society unable to recognize that substance use disorders and mental health disorders are medical issues – not moral failings.

Stop the Judgment Project is committed to ending the stigma of judgment associated with mental health disorders and substance use disorders, particularly in young adults, by:

  • Educating the public on the complexity of substance use disorders when combined with a mental health disorder, and how these two diseases often are linked.
  • Generating more societal compassion and kindness for young adults who are dealing with these disorders.
  • Opening the lines of communication so that no one is too ashamed or too scared to talk about or seek help for these disorders.
  • Supporting families who are on this lonely journey with a young loved one or have lost a child.
  • Helping to fund projects that make measurable positive changes in relation to substance use disorders and mental health disorders.
