Elizabeth Seton Center

Mission Statement

In the tradition of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, and the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, to be a magnet center of intergenerational lifelong learning where people of all ages can gather to learn, to change, and to grow in body, mind and spirit.

About Elizabeth Seton Center

Intergenerational Programming is at the heart of our mission. From the start, Mother Elizabeth Seton and our Sisters of Charity blended care of the young and young at heart. By providing early childhood education and senior services, Seton Center has the privilege and opportunity to continue this tradition. Bridging the generations is especially relevant today when extended families stretch across the country and beyond. By working together, the young and elderly grow in respect and appreciation for one another. The smiles that result testify to the importance of these interactions.

Seton Center is committed to intergenerational programming for children and seniors. Both generations come together regularly to interact with one other, work on activities and share fun experiences. Children and seniors benefit from these relationships by enhancing social skills in children, fostering friendships between generations, stimulating learning in both groups and increasing memory and motor usage in seniors. Simply watching their smiling faces is clear evidence of the joy created when the generations mingle. Seton Center is one of the few organizations in Pittsburgh that utilizes intergenerational programming to create a sense of family that supports and encourages multiple generations through intentional and regular interactions.
