Children's Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc.

Mission Statement

The mission of Children's Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc. (CSCF) is to provide quality programs for children with sickle cell disease and their families to help them face the educational, social and economic challenges caused by the disease. CSCF engages, educates and empowers persons living with sickle cell disease to help them live longer, healthier lives. Our commitment to community education, awareness and advocacy along with raising funds for research are natural extensions of this mission.

About Children's Sickle Cell Foundation, Inc.

The Children's Sickle Cell Foundation has provided quality programs and services to children and adults living in Southwestern PA for more than 20 years and is making the largest impact for persons living with sickle cell disease in Pennsylvania through the PA Living Well with Sickle CellŪ Initiative stretching from Southwest PA through Central PA to the Northeast region. This program focuses on improving access to quality care, addressing social determinants of health across the lifespan with a particular focus on education and employment during the youth transition from pediatric to adult health care.

CSCF families participate in support groups, outings and events throughout the year where they receive information and build strong networks of support with other families. For the school aged children, the Educational Support and Advocacy Program ensures that students are reaching their highest potential. CSCF supports young adults to successfully navigate the transitions to adulthood, from the pediatric care team, focusing on self-management, and interacting with the adult care team. Adults living with sickle cell disease receive supportive services as needed and some serve as mentors through the Family Leaders and Empowerment Groups.
