Mission Statement

NurturePA's mission is to provide an innovative text messaging program that creates meaningful relationships between volunteer mentors and parents to promote infant mental health and early literacy.

About NurturePA, Inc.

NurturePA is a charitable, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization with the primary mission of providing an innovative program (the NurtureŽ Program) that transforms how parents promote the healthy social emotional development of young children and their early literacy. How parents interact with their young children forms the foundation of their readiness for school and overall success in life. Becoming a parent, however, can be a jolting transition and may lead to increased maternal stress and not infrequently to perinatal depression and/or anxiety. Many of these at-risk parents need help with parenting skills and finding evidence-based information at the exact time that it is needed. The NurtureŽ Program pairs perinatal moms with trained mentors who provide parenting support and information through an interactive text-messaging platform. The texting software is a highly cost-efficient means for mentors to easily interact and dialogue with parents who have incorporated cell phones into their daily lives. To promote good parenting, the NurtureŽ Program focuses on building protective factors with families that research has shown increase family stability, enhance child development, and reduce child abuse and neglect. The protective factors address parental resilience, parenting knowledge, and the social emotional competence of children.
