KAALYN'S PERSONAL PAGE
Hey :) It's me - disabled wheelchair user, complex childhood trauma survivor, and everyone's favorite bamf! I'm so eager to be supporting Beauty After Bruises with every dollar raised and to gather a team of unlikely walkers - be they disabled, unfit, deeply traumatized, agoraphobic, in recovery, grieving, or otherwise. We are all here to do something we thought we couldn't. Together.

While a Walk may not seem a likely event for a wheelchair user, I'm determined to push myself (figuratively and literally) to raise funds for childhood trauma survivors - innocents who've been pushed around by the world and those who were supposed to take care of them for far too long. I'll be wheeling myself to that finish line, even if it takes me an hour! Each year I aim to make an even greater impact than the year prior; honoring my commitment to myself to trust that I can do hard things and take ownership of Me. Today, I get to control how far, in what ways, and for what reason my body gets pushed.
Back in 2019, I crossed the finish line by using my newly-learned crutches to walk the final 50-70ft on my own. In 2020, I was freshly home from the neuro ICU/hospital, but - fueled by a brutal pandemic, compromised access to treatment, traumatic social injustices, and survivors' deteriorating mental health everywhere - I powered through the sidewalks of my local community on livestream. In 2021, my body was too unwell to even push myself at all, but I made honoring my body's limitations the mission -- one I discovered was actually far harder than any test of physical endurance. And one that spoke to the overtired heart of many trauma survivors. In 2022, I barely found the strength to fundraise, but that mountain became my finish line to cross.
This year? The goal is to get outside, in my community, breathe the fresh air, and feel the sun again -- be it in my powerchair or by the shove of my own palms, getting out at all is the longest trek. Honoring that scary transition that so many of us have been left to battle alone feels right. Anything more is a celebration! May crossing that threshold be a healing step for all of us.
This is for you. This is for me. This is for US.
I am determined to raise more than when I could DO more to see it happen.
You can help ensure that I do.
