PA SILC's mission is to use our collective power and legal mandate to develop and secure public policies that ensure civil rights and expand options for all people with disabilities in all aspects of life.
About Pennsylvania Statewide Independent Living Council (PA SILC)
We have been a non-profit under both the Federal IRS and PA Department of State for nearly 30 years. PA SILC responsibilities:
Collaborate with, strengthen and expand the network of PA Centers for Independent Living (CILs)
Identify issues important to all individuals with disabilities which need to be addressed at the State and Federal Level - Obtain input from all stakeholders and develop the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL)
Monitor and review the implementation of the SPIL Clarification: We aren't a direct services provider. Our systems advocacy efforts for people with disabilities includes, but is not limited to affordable and accessible: healthcare, long-term care services and supports (in the community), housing, transportation, employment, emergency preparedness, education, community supports, and assistive technology (AT) Along with attending disability stakeholder events (state agencies and other entities impacting people with disabilities), we provide updates regarding budget and policy issues pertaining to people with disabilities on the state and federal levels. Perform systems advocacy with the PA CIL network, other disability organizations and various community partners on SPIL or other disability areas of need.
