About Community Blood Bank of NWPA & WNY
When Austin Zurick was only days old, his mom Lauren knew something wasn't right. She rushed him back to the hospital where he stopped breathing. Austin was given blood to keep him alive until he could be stabilized. It was that blood, and more that he received during his months-long battle, that kept him alive until the underlying cause of his illness could be found. After 35 transfusions, Austin is a happy and healthy 4 year old boy!
"Our Donors Save Lives" isn't just a slogan, it's a fact. One in seven people entering the hospital will need blood, resulting in the need for about 800 blood donors each week. Community Blood Bank, founded in 1966 through the cooperation of several local hospitals, is the exclusive supplier to the hospitals it serves, and relies on the residents of each community it serves to provide the blood needed for local patients. The majority of donors are seen at mobile blood drives throughout the blood bank's 13-county service area. Additionally, the blood bank operates one walk-in donation center, based in Erie. As a nonprofit, The Community Blood Bank of Northwest Pennsylvania and Western New York connects donors to patients who are in need of life-sustaining blood products.
