Planned Parenthood of Delaware

Mission Statement

The mission of Planned Parenthood of Delaware is to actively promote reproductive health and responsible sexual behavior through the provision of comprehensive high quality education, counseling and medical services. We support the availability of these services for all, including individuals whose access to other sources of help is limited. We promote public policy and understanding that supports reproductive health and family planning.

About Planned Parenthood of Delaware

Since its inception in 1931, Planned Parenthood of Delaware (PPDE) has encouraged women to take control of their health. By providing a broad range of high quality health services in a safe and supportive environment, PPDE promotes the prevention of disease and unintended pregnancy through reproductive health care. More than 90% of the care we provide is preventive. Along with providing a full range of options for pregnancy prevention, PPDE also offers routine gynecological exams and pap smears, screening for high blood pressure, anemia and other chronic conditions. Our Family Planning services include: breast and cervical cancer screenings; well women exams; birth control, including long acting methods; pregnancy tests and information on all pregnancy options; testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV); human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine to prevent cervical and vaginal cancers; and community and youth health education.

In our Fiscal Year 2014, Planned Parenthood of Delaware served about 11,000 patients, over 60% of who were at or below 150% of the federal poverty level. Many more Delawareans received reproductive health and sexuality education information from PPDE though community forums, brochures, and media outreach. Despite the progress through the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in helping many to find insurance, we still find many of our patients are uninsured or underinsured. We do not turn anyone away due to lack of funds. To meet the needs of the Delaware community, PPDE has three health centers, located in Wilmington, Dover and Newark.
