Welcome to April's Page!
Welcome to my Personal Page. Please consider making a donation on my behalf to support my ReMed / TBI fundraising campaign.
As as most of you know, 4 years this August, I was hurt while working at the college. I fell to the concrete from almost a 5' height (tailgate of my dump truck) causing whiplash then my head hit the concrete knocking me unconscious. God allowed the doctors to care for me and see that I had received a TBI (traumatic brain injury). Unfortunately there is not a lot of press on this type of injury unless you hear about a pro football player or other famous name receiving them.
Like with my injury, alot of people cannot see the physical differences and changes I have went through or even the unseen issues that Jim, my husband, helps me to continue to deal with. Unless people have canes, limp, scars, missing limbs, bandages or things of this sort, you may not be able to see their problems or injuries. Traumatic Brain Injury Sufferers are sometimes never noticed out in public, because, like a lot of illnesses that are either of a mental form, learning disabilities or even disabilities brought on by simple changes in surroundings, etc.; we usually have few, if any visible traits of injury or illness.
God has blessed me with being able to walk, talk and even get back to driving (these are usually limited to short periods and outside of stressful situations). TBI's take a toll on not only the injured, but the family and friends as much as the person who is hurt. After 1 & 1/2 years of therapies with awesome therapists BWC moved me to Pittsburgh to ReMed to live, for advanced care, family and friends consultations to understand and cope or help, intense therapy and re-training for 6 months. It is because they are specifically trained to handle this and worse types of Traumatic Brain Injuries that I have been on a better track of recovery.
We (me, my family and friends) had to let go of the "old person", or pre-injury April, that I was, which is never easy, and see the "new April", as I am post TBI now, still with tough bridges to cross at times, but with God's help and a place as good as ReMed, I have a renewed hope that I can get to another level of healing! Please donate if you feel led to. ReMed for TBI's IS a worthy cause! Thank you for your time and support. My husband, Jim and I have personally seen the results of donations you make in the lives that these donations help. We can also continue to spread the news about these types of debilitating injuries with your contributions!!!
