About Arsenal Family & Children's Center
Arsenal Family & Children's Center is a social service agency and developmental preschool in the Friendship area of Pittsburgh, offering services for children and their families since 1953. Through our programs and partnerships with other community agencies, Arsenal reaches children whose circumstances foster a positive start in life, as well as children whose circumstances make such a beginning uncertain. Founded by Dr. Benjamin Spock, Arsenal also served as a training site for Fred Rogers and a host of renowned child development experts under the guidance of Dr. Margaret McFarland, Arsenal's first Director. Today,Arsenal is a trusted leader in the field, helping children and parents build nurturing relationships. We specialize in active learning through play and have built our programs on the foundation of research, experience and observation by experts who have been working with children for many years. We invite children to explore, create and manipulate ideas, toys, and materials in ways that enable them to learn and grow in personally meaningful ways
Our programs include:
- Supervised Parenting Programs provide structured parental training to non-custodial parents and their children. Parents gain an understanding of their child's development, learn effective parenting techniques and build a trusting relationship with their child in a safe and secure environment
- Raising Safe Kids ACT Parenting Class is designed to help parents and caregivers gain the knowledge and skills they need to raise children without violence.
- Toddler and Developmental Preschool Programs are for children 2 - 5 years old. These programs are built around a play as learning curriculum that focuses on the child as an active participant in the learning process in a developmentally appropriate environment.
