Mission Statement

The mission of CEO is to ameliorate the causes and effects of poverty and promote self-sufficiency among low-income and vulnerable populations in our communities.

About Commission on Economic Opportunity

CEO was incorporated in 1966 as a community action agency to alleviate poverty. CEO annually serves more than thirty-five thousand individuals from nearly thirteen thousand households. While its original mission has not changed, CEO's approach to the needs of low-income and vulnerable populations has evolved over time. CEO adjusts programs to meet the fluctuating needs of the community.

CEO's multiple services are based on the following goals: responding to basic, material needs of children, adults and seniors in poverty; Increasing economic self-sufficiency among low-income individuals and families; promoting the positive development of low-income children, youth and their families; promoting the health and independence of the elderly and disabled through supportive, in-home services; and providing leadership in policy issues affecting low-income children, adults and seniors.
