Center for Vision Loss
To enable personal triumphs over visual impairments.
About Center for Vision Loss
The Center for Vision Loss is the only organization dedicated to the visual well-being of everyone in Lehigh, Northampton, and Monroe counties and is the Pennsylvania Association for the Blind’s (PAB) only accredited service provider in these communities. Its nonprofit mission is to enable personal triumphs over visual impairments, and its guiding principle is that vision loss should never be a barrier to achievement, independence, dignity, and hope.
Center for Vision Loss proceeds from the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community support its Camp I CAN! Summer Program for visually-impaired kids ages 7-13. During the two-week day camp, participants improve their orientation and mobility and develop of socialization skills necessary to become more independent in their daily lives. All campers have a visual acuity of 20/70 or worse. Campers also take part in a community service project, from which they learn that a physical impairment cannot keep person from making a difference, develop greater awareness about their communities, and gain empathy for people who experience challenges of different kinds.
