Miller's Undignified Fundraising Page
the lgbt center needs your chain of bucks.
first, the executive director they hired instead of me (i know, right?) is kicking ass and adding staff. programs are humming: youth and aging, trans and homeless and survivors. there's an arts program where genderqueer artists donate pieces to fund surgeries or rent for struggling trans folk. there's an oral history project (think "lesbian herstory archives") that is uncovering and preserving the lives, documents, and artifacts of lgbtq people in the part of pennsylvania where it is really, really tough to be lgbtq. the youth programs are getting a new director and counselor. the community educator is running around training community members and professionals about how to stop making it so damn tough to be lgbtq. a queer and trans people of color advisory group is discussing and advising the board of the needs of the qtpoc communities. it's super exciting.
this all costs money. and sometimes grants make you spend money before they pay you back. and that's where you come in.
also, i'm the board chair for the lgbt center this year (i know, right?), and i'm trying to make a good impression and act like i know what i'm doing.
also, we still have all the usual nonsense going on with the military ban and exempting federally-funded religious foster care programs from nondiscrimination regulations.
also, there's a nationwide backlash that shows people are less comfortable having queer and genderqueer neighbors, parishioners, teachers, or doctors. or seeing us hold hands. seriously.
send what you can? help us strengthen our communities in a part of pennsylvania where it is really kind of tough to be lgbtq? no amount is too large. no amount is too small.
