2018 Arc of Cumberland

Mission Statement

The mission of The Arc of Cumberland & Perry Counties (CPARC) is to empower, inspire, and educate people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their families, and the community.

About Arc of Cumberland & Perry Counties (CPARC)

Because of you, people with disabilities lead a full life. The Arc of Cumberland & Perry Counties (CPARC) supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families through specialized community-based employment, adult day programs, and housing.

Let me tell you a story about Bob.

A,B,C,D...but not E," Bob said. "I'm not going to E."

Bob, an individual in CPARC services, spoke these words at last year's Highmark Walk as we moved through the HACC campus. Hoping to put into context what Bob meant, our Executive Director Anne Couldridge turned to the dedicated direct support professional (DSP) who supports Bob.

"He's talking about the institution," our DSP said quietly. I was stunned that the campus setting had triggered Bob's memories of his life in an institution. With a shared look in that solemn moment, the DSP and I silently acknowledged the gravity of what Bob had endured.

I share this because it must serve as a reminder that we are not so far removed from a time when people with disabilities were systematically denied educational opportunities, jobs, and housing. That horrific time in history drives CPARC's work to empower, inspire and educate people with disabilities. Because of you, people with disabilities live, work, play, and thrive in the community, alongside people without disabilitiesnot be isolated in an institution. This is fundamental.

Your gift gives Boband folks like hima full life. Thank you.
