2019 Highmark Walk!
Greetings friends and family!
My employer, Voices for Independence, has been invited to participate in the 2019 Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community. I've also been tasked with being the team captain this year, so it is especially important to meet my fundraising goals to lead our team! It is a 5K walk designed to raise awareness and funds for 25 local human service agencies. The walk is held on Saturday, June 1, and we need your help to make this a successful event!
Voices for Independence strives to empower people with disabilities by improving the quality, independence, dignity and control of their lives. We also promote a philosphy of independent living, including a philosophy of consumer control, peer support, self-help, self-determination, equal access and individual and systems advocacy as well as the integration and full inclusion of individuals with disabilities into the mainstream of American society. If you'd like to know more about VFI, visit our website at www.vficil.org.
Here's the thing: due to the large number of agencies that desire to participate in the walk, Highmark asks each agency to raise a certain amount of money. If we do not reach that magic number, VFI will not be invited back next year as one of the 25 local organizations supported by the walk. The walk is a great way for VFI to reach the community, raise awareness, raise some money, and meet individuals who would benefit from our services, so we really want to be part of the walk every year!
You can help us in multiple ways:
1. Join our team, The Positive Attitude Supporters, and come out on June 1st to show your support by walking with us! Not only is it a great time with amazing people, but there are also vendors, raffles and a free t-shift for those who raise $30 or more! 2. Support VFI by donating to support our team. Every little bit helps! Whether it is $1 or $100, your donation goes a long way in helping VFI empower people with disabilities. 100% of the money raised goes directly to VFI to help us find affordable housing, teach skills classes, assist people transition from nursing facilities, be more involved in the community and countless other services that enrich the lives of people within our Center for Indepedent Living service area.
